    What it actually is

    A chew made ofhigh-quality collagen

    chew-beef-liver-cutout Human grade collagen

Most long-lasting chews are something else with a coating, or a powder pressed into a shape. This is collagen, slow dried until firm.

    • Nothing added

    From raw material to chew

    Slow on purpose.

    1. Liquid collagen being poured into a mould Step 1

      One raw material

Not rawhide, which is the outer hide and a by-product of leather. One raw material, cooked down.

    2. Set blocks on a drying rack Step 2

      Dried slowly

The drying takes out the fat and moisture and leaves the protein. Nothing needs to hold it together, so nothing goes in.

    3. A dog with a finished Bolta chew stick Step 3

      Finished by hand

Small runs in NSW. No two sticks are quite the same shape or shade, which is part of why it costs what it costs.

    Why a chew at all

    They're going to chew something.

Chewing is not a treat, it is a behaviour. Dogs do it to settle themselves the way people fidget.

    • Busy jaws

Boredom and nervous energy go somewhere useful.

    • Settles them

Twenty minutes of a quiet, occupied dog.

    • Helps clean teeth

      Scraping action helps with plaque.

    • Lasts a session

Real work, not thirty seconds and a crumb.

    But why this one

    Why this is the one

Every long-lasting chew solves the same problem a different way, and most of them create a new one doing it. Four things this one gets right.

    • It holds them for a sessionDense enough to take real work, so you get a quiet house for a while rather than thirty seconds and a crumb. That is what people come back for.
    • It softens instead of splinteringSaliva breaks it down as they chew, so there is nothing sharp to crack a tooth on. Antlers, bones, hooves and nylon last because nothing happens to them at all, which is exactly the problem.
    • It is almost pure collagen96% collagen, high protein and low fat, so a daily chew does not quietly undo the diet. Independently tested by Agrifood rather than estimated. Most long-lasting chews cannot say any of that.
    • There is nothing else in itNo glycerine, no starch, no sugar, no salt, nothing added to bulk it out or hold it together. What they are chewing is the ingredient, not a binder holding a powder in a stick shape.

    Questions people actually ask

Will it damage my dog's teeth?

It softens on contact with saliva and breaks down as they chew, rather than staying rock-hard like antlers or bones. For dogs with sensitive or older teeth, run the end under warm water for a minute first.

How do you know it is 96% collagen?

Because it was measured, not calculated. The analysis is done by Agrifood, an independent Australian laboratory, rather than worked out from the recipe.

How long does one stick last?

It depends on the dog. A Large typically gives a 30 kg dog several sessions across a few days, and a Medium does the same for a 15 kg dog. Determined chewers finish faster.

My dog is under 10 kg. Which size?

Medium, but slowly. One stick a week, in sessions, is plenty for a small dog's calorie budget. A smaller stick is on the list.

Can my dog choke on it?

It is designed to soften and break down rather than snap into chunks, but every chew needs supervision. Take the last piece away once it is small enough to swallow whole.

My dog has a sensitive stomach.

There is no glycerine, and no added preservatives, sugar or salt. Introduce it over a few days. If your dog is on a veterinary diet, check with your vet first.

    Sticky paws?

Yes, that happens. Warm water and a cloth.

How much is shipping, and how long will it take?

$12.95 anywhere in Australia, and free on orders over $180. Orders are processed the day after you order and ship from our warehouse in Sydney, usually with Australia Post. Allow 2 to 8 business days from there, depending on how far you are from Sydney.
